SAN DIEGO -- Major League Baseball is telling managers to cool it on arguing balls and strikes, and warning them not to rely on replay help to bolster their beefs.MLB executive Joe Torre sent a memo Friday to managers, general managers and assistant general managers that said: This highly inappropriate conduct is detrimental to the game and must stop immediately. The memo was obtained Saturday by The Associated Press.Although disagreements over ball and strike calls are natural, the prevalence of manager ejections simply cannot continue, Torre wrote. This conduct not only delays the game, but it also has the propensity to undermine the integrity of the umpires on the field.Torre, a Hall of Fame manager and former NL MVP, said skippers are increasingly relying on technology from the clubhouse or video room to argue from the dugout. Every pitch and play is monitored by teams in case they want to challenge for a replay review. He called that an express violation of the Replay Regulations, which state that `on-field personnel in the dugout may not discuss any issue with individuals in their video review room using the dugout phone other than whether to challenge a play subject to video replay review.Detroit manager Brad Ausmus was ejected for arguing balls and strikes and covered home plate with a sweat shirt earlier this season, and Boston manager John Farrell was tossed during an animated dispute alongside Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.Earlier this month, Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected while arguing from the dugout. And as recently as Friday night, Oakland manager Bob Melvin and San Francisco skipper Bruce Bochy got tossed for arguing balls and strikes along with players on their respective teams.Torre concluded by advising that any manager or coach ejected for arguing balls and strikes hereafter will be disciplined, including at least a fine.---Follow Bernie Wilson on Twitter at http://twitter.com/berniewilsonCheap Salomon Canada . The 43-year-old Brights Grove, Ont., native returned to Glen Abbey Golf Club on Wednesday for the 2013 Canadian Open with a new approach to his game and a renewed confidence after last years disappointing finish. Weir shot 72 in each of the first two rounds in 2012, missing the cut by five strokes. "The confidence level and the way Im playing from a year ago is a big change," said Weir. "I feel confident when I tee it up on Thursday every week now. Its not quite where I want it to be, but I could say that about weeks that Ive won before the week started and then things can kind of come together and you end up winning a tournament. "So Im hoping this week I feel good about my game and I think if I can get some momentum going early in this tournament and get rolling, Ill have a good chance." Weirs renewed confidence comes from working on his driving at the range, allowing him to relax at the tees and concentrate on his putting. "I have much more confidence with my ball striking and Im able to spend more time on my short game now," said Weir.dddddddddddd "I spent so much time on my long game that that feels pretty good for the most part now." Weirs right to be encouraged after several big strides in his game this year, including a tie for 28th at the U.S. Open in mid-June after a strong fourth round when he shot 1-under par. "Im not fooling myself. I go out there and I tested like the U.S. Open," said Weir. "You cant fool yourself around a place like that." Although Weir is far removed from his championship at the 2003 Masters, he still has an avid following among Canadian golf fans. On Wednesday, he had a small crowd trailing behind him at the pro-am tournament of the Canadian Open. "Its great to have support like that. I think maybe their memories are a little better than some other people," said Weir. "They have a longer memory and know what Ive done and know how hard Ive worked and they follow what Im doing. "Its great to have that kind of support, especially being close to home." Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont., is hosting the Canadian Open with a $5.6-million purse. ' ' '
