ST. LOUIS -- Theres one preseason game left for Aaron Rodgers, who figures hell play at least a half against Seattle. Guess what hes dying to do? "Id like to score a touchdown, thats kind of the first priority," Rodgers said after the Green Bay Packers settled for field goals off three productive drives in a 19-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night. "But weve had four good drives, four out of four. Weve just got to get more points, weve got to put the ball in the end zone." Rodgers got the Packers (1-1) on the scoreboard for the first time in the preseason. Not that coach Mike McCarthy had been worried about an offence that averaged 27 points last season, or the final score for that matter. McCarthy said his first priority was quality opportunities for players, the second was effective play in all three phases, "and the third priority is winning the game." "If you dont like that, I get that," McCarthy said. "Trust me, I want to win every play, every game, but were a young team." Sam Bradford had only himself to blame for putting up nice numbers, going 8 for 12 for 156 yards, with nothing to show for four possessions. His highlight throw was a 57-yarder that hit Chris Givens in stride to the Packers 4, but Bradford fumbled away the snap on fourth-and-goal from the 1 late in the first quarter with the Rams (0-2) trailing 3-0. "Thats on me. I just missed it," Bradford said. "Ive got to make sure I have the ball before I get out of there. Its unacceptable. "You cant have that happen. Thats what cost us this game." Both Packers starting wide receivers are out with injuries, so Rodgers leaned on tight end Jermichael Finley while going 10 for 12 for 134 yards. All three drives stalled and the Packers had a pair of field goals by Mason Crosby when Rodgers turned the offence over to backup Graham Harrell in the second quarter. The Packers got shut out 17-0 by Arizona in the preseason opener with Rodgers playing just one series. The Rams averted a shutout on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Austin Davis to Nick Johnson in the final minute. The Rams got offensive skill upgrades, tight end Jared Cook and wide receiver Tavon Austin, involved for the first time. Cook had a 37-yard reception, almost all the yards coming after grabbing a low pass from Bradford, and Austin caught four passes but for just 28 yards. "When youre part of an offence thats supposed to put up points, those are the things you have to look at," Cook said. "Thats our job and thats what were supposed to be here for. "The fact that we didnt do that is bothersome." Isaiah Pead started at running back for St. Louis, a chance to gain on front-runner Daryl Richardson, but was held to 19 yards on 11 carries. Packers first-round pick Datone Jones, a defensive end, did not dress after injuring an ankle last week. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson is expected back from knee injury in time for the opener and Randall Cobb, who had a team-leading 80 receptions last season, has a biceps injury. Finley caught four passes for 76 yards in the first half. Rookie Eddie Lacy, competing with injured DuJuan Harris for the running back job, had 40 yards on eight carries plus an 11-yard reception by the break. Crosby was 3 for 3, connecting from 34 and 48 yards in the first half on Rodgers series, and adding a 30-yarder in the third quarter that had enough despite getting tipped by the Rams Cody Davis. Tryout Giorgio Tavecchio missed a 49-yard attempt in the first quarter and hit a 38-yarder near the end of the half for a 9-0 lead. The Rams stalled at the Green Bay 38 on their opening drive when Bradford hit Austin for a 3-yard gain on fourth-and-5 and Greg Zuerlein missed a 50-yard field goal attempt on Bradfords other possession. Bradford threw a touchdown pass in the preseason opener, a 27-19 loss at Cleveland. Johnny Jolly made big plays on two interceptions against Kellen Clemens in the third quarter, deflecting a pass at the line that was intercepted by Jarrett Bush to set up a field goal, and then picking off Clemens in the end zone. The latter took punt returner Brandon Smith off the hook for a lost fumble at the Green Bay 10. Clemens, competing with Austin Davis to be Bradfords backup, has thrown two interceptions in both preseason games. He was 2 for 11 for 27 yards. Vince Young opened the second half at quarterback for Green Bay and was 5 for 29 for 26 yards. Will Witherspoon started at outside linebacker for the Rams ahead of Jo-Lonn Dunbar, who is suspended the first four games for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy. Dunbar saw his first action in the second quarter. Nick Ritchie Ducks Jersey . Tracey comes to the Blue Bombers after spending over a decade with Queens University. DENVER -- Carlos Martinez labored most of the game. Not with his pitches, but catching his breath.Martinez threw five effective innings despite struggling to take a deep breath in the thin air and added a two-run double, helping the St. Louis Cardinals gain ground in the NL playoff race with a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. The Cardinals moved into a tie for the second wild card with the Giants, who blew a ninth-inning lead in Los Angeles and lost 2-1 to the Dodgers.St. Louis and San Francisco are one game behind the New York Mets, who lost to Atlanta.Martinez, who turns 25 on Wednesday, gave himself an early birthday present by holding Colorado to two runs while striking out six. The right-hander is 9-1 on the road this season.Martinez (15-8) helped his own cause with a two-out double as part of a three-run fourth. He also was hit just below the left leg by a fastball from Tyler Anderson (5-6) in the third -- two pitches after Randal Grichuk lined a two-run homer.Really, though, the biggest issue for Martinez was breathing in the Mile High City. The altitude affects everybody a little differently, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. It affected him today, for sure.Martinez was cruising along until one out in the fourth, when Matheny came out to check on him. Martinez was quite winded, and a ball boy brought out a cup of water, which he quickly chugged and continued on his way.I tried to take deep breaths and stay focused, Martinez said through a translator. It didnt take away my focus in the game.Martinez was pulled after the fifth because of an elevated pitch count. The bullpen bottled up the Rockies until pinch-hitter Ryan Raburn hit a solo homer off Kevin Siegrist in the ninth to make it 5-3.After allowing a single to Charlie Blackmon, Siegrist struck out DJ LeMahieu before walking Carlos Gonzalez. The left-hander got Nolan Arenado to line out to left field for his third save.Anderson allowed five runs -- two earned -- in seven solid innings. The rookie is 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 starts at Coors Field. He ended up getting through seven, so it was a good outing, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.Arenado, a Gold Glove third baseman, made a costly throwing error in the fourth.dddddddddddd Martinez followed with a two-run double -- giving him six RBI this season -- and Matt Carpenter added a run-scoring single. We have seen (Arenado) make that play. He makes it look easy and that wasnt an easy play, Weiss said. And then the throw was a little high. It was a tough play.LeMahieu finished 2 for 4 to raise his average to .349 and take a slight lead over Washingtons Daniel Murphy in the NL batting race. Murphy is hitting .348.TRAINERS ROOMCardinals: Matheny said theres been no discussion of possibly activating OF Matt Holliday (broken right thumb) to serve as a pinch runner. Holliday is still dealing with some swelling issues in the thumb after batting practice sessions.Rockies: There are no plans for surgery on the broken left hand of 1B Mark Reynolds after he was hit by a pitch Sunday, ending his season. Its a tough break for Mark, Weiss said.HOLD THE ONIONSA launched baseball in batting practice left a burger joint in quite a pickle. The Helton Burger Shack located behind the bleachers in left field was closed Monday after a ball broke the glass protecting the prep area.No official word on whose liner actually broke the window pane -- Twitter conversations credited Holliday -- but it wasnt the restaurants namesake; Todd Helton retired after the 2013 season.BAD BLOOD?The Rockies have some history with Martinez. In July 2015, things got a little heated after he hit LeMahieu with a pitch.Martinez didnt think there was any purpose to the pitch that plunked him Monday night, even though it did sting.I dont think it was any retaliation. That happened last year. Its a new year, Martinez said. I wouldnt like to think that. I think it just got away.Anderson downplayed it, too.It was a ball that cut and hit him in the shin, he explained.UP NEXTCardinals: With 132 wins, RHP Adam Wainwright (11-9, 4.51 ERA) tries to move closer to tying Dizzy Dean (134) for sixth on the teams career list.Rockies: LHP Jorge De La Rosa (8-8, 5.22) is 4-0 with a 4.01 ERA in four starts against St. Louis at Coors Field.
